The Sheep Industry is in good hands. That was clear as we loaded up our sheep and Sydell equipment for the drive home from the All-American Junior Show (AAJS) at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison, Wisconsin.
These young men and women, boys and girls represent the best of what America has to offer. They know the value of hard work and they’re not afraid to get dirty (and boy did we all get dirty!). Best of all, everywhere you looked you saw families working together to build a legacy. For some families that legacy started generations ago, when grandparents focused on raising a quality flock that included show stock, building and improving that flock year after year. For other families, that legacy is just beginning as families help the kids start a flock with a little bit of seed money and a lot of hard work.

Regardless of whether you are an established sheep producer, or brand new to the industry, you make friends at these shows. These new friends are willing to lend a hand, show you the ropes, and mentor you along the way. Maybe you you’re not quite sure how to fit your stock, you can feel free to ask the breeder down the aisle and they will help you know what to do. Maybe you want some tips on how to be a better showman, there’s always a new friend who can tell you about the lessons that they've learned along the way.
We sure loved talking to the Sydell customers throughout the week. Some customers shared that they've had our show stands, lambing pens or round bale feeders for decades, while others are just getting started, purchasing bucket hangers, folding panels, or show pens. Letting us know that our sheep equipment are quality products that serve the needs of your farm — your kind words mean the world to us! We left the AAJS with new friends and feeling excited about returning next year.
Like all of families showing stock at AAJS, we’re continuing to grow the Sydell sheep equipment legacy that our family started over 40 years ago, and we’re truly honored to help other sheep producers grow their family legacy along the way. Our family, serving the needs of your family, working together to put the Sheep Industry in the hands of the next generation … it doesn’t get any better than that!
Congratulations to all the young people who participated in the AAJS, and thanks to the committee members and volunteers! Sydell was honored that we were able to serve as the platinum sponsor for the 2023 All-American Junior Show. We’ll see you all next year in Michigan.
